This project had been organized in Peru for the last 8 years. The aim of this project is to improve the education and widen the growing opportunities for the Peruvian children who live in an orphanage called Casa Urpi. There are approximately 48 boys in the orphanage with ages ranging from 5-17 years old. The children at the orphanage suffer from, violence in the home, drug and/or alcohol abuse by parents or imprisonment of their parents. Volunteers will participate in coordination with staff of the institution in different activities such as ongoing courses for the children on topics such as English, gardening, carpentry, handiwork, handicrafts, cooking and baking. The objective of these workshops is that the children learn abilities that will help them in the future. Volunteers will also plan their own activities based on individual and group skills and interests and the needs of the children. Volunteers will take the children on Saturday afternoon excursions to the local swimming pool and occasionally on activities to learn about ceramics and craftsmanship. Volunteers will be working along with staff of the institution to realize activities for the children that suffer social problems and help them to build up a better future through education and taking care about their needs.
